Trauma Talk

Informed Professionals. Better Outcomes.

“Dreams do come true, if you make ’em real!” — Beyoncé

Courtney and Alexis met as baby social workers teaching violence prevention at a domestic violence agency. We were young professionals determined to save the world, spending our off-hours couponing and chasing BOGO sales (honestly, take us back lol).

As the years passed and motherhood found us, we began to notice something bigger: the undeniable connection between trauma and the transition into parenthood. We saw how trauma could echo through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and how often perinatal providers simply weren’t equipped with the tools or training to meet families where they were. Too many families were leaving care feeling unseen, misunderstood, or retraumatized.

So in January 2018, we locked ourselves in a hotel room and built the damn thing.

Using everything we knew about trauma and birth, we created a four-hour training focused on helping birth professionals care for families through a trauma-informed lens. What started as one training quickly became something much larger. We kept dreaming, refining, and expanding. Adding new content, reaching new audiences, and finding more creative ways to teach, connect, and create impact.

Over time, we launched a self-paced online course and began partnering with hospitals, healthcare systems, and other organizations to provide customized trainings. Nearly a decade into this journey, we’ve stood in hospital auditoriums, intimate birth centers, and conference halls. We’ve taught face-to-face and screen-to-screen. And through every evolution, our mission has remained the same:

Inform professionals. Improve outcomes.

However you found us, we’re so glad you’re here. We can’t wait to work alongside you to help create safer, more compassionate spaces for every human entering their parenting journey.

“Trauma is a wordless story our body tells us about what is safe.”

— Resmaa Menakem, My Grandmother’s Hands
